Study GST in detail, says Governor

Governor P. Sathasivam has hoped that the Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation (GIFT) would conduct detailed studies on the proposed Goods and Services and Tax (GST).

Inaugurating the new campus of GIFT here on Tuesday, Mr. Sathasivam also hoped that GIFT would conduct more studies on decentralised planning and implementation by local government institutions. There was also need for research, training, and publication relating to decentralisation, he said.

Chairing the function, Finance Minister K.M. Mani said the government would welcome detailed studies on the possible impact of the GST.

The Governor released ‘Comprehensive Book on VAT,’ brought out by GIFT at the function, which was attended by the late I.S. Gulati’s wife Leela Gulati, Taxes Principal Secretary W.R. Reddy, among others

  1. Study on the Impact of GST on Consumer prices of goods and services is very crucial before the introduction of the same. GST is a paradigm shift in the indirect tax reform. The benefit of the tax reform should be reached to the common man with minimum tax burdern. The rate of tax should be rational so that the inflationary tendency in the intial years can be controlled.
