Union Minister for Law and Justice D.V. Sadananda Gowda has expressed confidence that the Goods and Services Tax Bill pending in the Rajya Sabha will be approved unanimously in the Parliament session starting July 24.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said that all the States, except Tamil Nadu, had extended their support to the Bill and political parties, including those who supported the Congress, were in favour of passing it in the Rajya Sabha.
Mr. Gowda said that Tamil Nadu’s apprehension over loss in revenue would be addressed by the Union government. Promises had been given that whatever financial losses they suffer would be made good by the Union government. “Moreover, we have very good equations with the Tamil Nadu government now and we foresee no hurdle in persuading them to fall in line and ensure the smooth passage of the Bill in the Rajya Sabha.”
The Minister was also confident of getting the support of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha to pass the GST Bill and said that Finance Minister Arun Jaitely, who held discussions with Congress leaders, would hold talks again. Mr. Gowda said that the amendment to the Land Acquisition Act was not a closed chapter and the issue was still alive and the amendment had been referred to the Joint Parliament Committee.
