Panel of state FMs to submit views on GST on June 5

The Rajya Sabha Select panel on GST is expected to submit the report before the Monsoon Session begins. The State FM Panel will be meeting today to decide on a response for the Select Panel.

Over 15 states are in complete agreement on GST Constitutional Amendment Bill. However, some states have asked for certain changes. For example, Punjab and Haryana are demanding purchase tax to be kept out of GST while Maharashtra wants to keep entry tax out of GST.

Smaller states like Goa and Kerala want betting, gambling to be exempted from the GST.

The Bihar FM has said the 1 percent additional tax should not lead to a cascading effect and the Centre must make set-off available against the same.
