Maharashtra will benefit from GST, says Sudhir Mungantiwar

The state will stand to benefit from the Goods and Services Tax (GST), state finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said at a press interaction on Friday. He said that the state would be ready with GST from next year.

The minister said that the though they would be losing the tax revenue, the centre has assured a compensation for the first five years.

He added that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) would lose a major chunk of the octroi but be compensated by the centre for five years and by the state government for the next five.

He also called for a digital platform to give all the services to the people and said that it would bring about more transparency.

For the farmers, a budgetary allocation of Rs 26, 281 has been readied and another Rs 23,000 crore is for road constructions.

On increasing the salaries of MLAs, Mungantiwar said that it was in keeping with the increasing work to be done in their areas.
