CHANDIGARH: City traders have demanded for simplification and rationalization of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
In a recent meeting of trade welfare board, the members of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM) submitted a memorandum to UT deputy commissioner Mandip Brar in this regard.
They demanded that small dealers having turnover upto Rs 1.5 crore, should be allowed to pay tax along with quarterly return. The CBM members also submitted that the GST officers detain the goods and always say that goods are under value and the traders are heavily penalized in spite of proper invoice and e-way bill. They demanded that this practice should be stopped.
They even submitted that if any registered seller with GST number does not upload his GSTR-1 return in time and does not pay his tax liability, then the seller is a defaulter. So, penalty should be imposed on the seller whereas the purchaser must be entitled for input credit as the purchaser is not defaulter in any way.
CBM chairman Charanjiv Singh said that there should be rationalistation of GST rates. There should be only three tax slab i.e. 5% GST on the essential domestic use goods, 12% slab against 12% and 18% slab at present, 18% slab on items against 28% slab, he added.
