The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has called for a national campaign from January 15, 2016 till the next session of Parliament to press MPs to pass the GST Bill.
In a press release, CAIT said trade and industry across the country are very disappointed that GST could not be implemented from April 1, 2016 after Parliament failed to pass it in the winter session.
CAIT National President B.C.Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said that during their national campaign, the traders across the country will gherao MPs of Congress and other parties opposing GST. They plan to submit them a memorandum and will impress upon them to support GST Bill in Budget session and also apprise their leadership about anguish of trading community.
About 100 conferences will be held in different states as a part of public advocacy campaign. Traders’ delegations will meet Chief Ministers of states and will urge them to extend their support to GST bill. CAIT may also hold a massive rally in New Delhi during budget session.
Bhartia and Khandelwal said CAIT was disturbed with the political developments on GST. It has convened a two-day conference of trade leaders from all over the country to take stock of the present situation on GST and to decide future strategy.
“We will also seek support of Industry Chambers in our national campaign,” they said. About 40 thousand Trade Federations and Associations will be roped in for the campaign. (SH)
