Again, Congress ready to stall GST in Parliament

PANAJI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an interview expressed his hope to pass the ambitious Goods and Services Tax Bill this year but the Congress appears to have other plans in mind. All India Congress Committee national spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi on Thursday asserted that the Congress would continue to stall the passage of the bill till key concerns raised by the Congress were addressed.

The Congress wants inclusion of the GST rate in the constitution, doing away with the inter-state levy, and constitution of an independent dispute resolution mechanism.
The Bharatiya Janta Party government has failed to push the GST bill, which has been termed as a much needed reform for the corporate sector, and has yet again promised the same in the monsoon session.
Chaturvedi was speaking on the sidelines of a press briefing where the party launched an audio visual satirical skit depicting the Narendra Modi government’s failures.
